Sun audio plugin

Postby BlanchardJ » Sun Jul 18, 2010 4:23 pm

Hi,

I would just like to inquire about how complex the task of updating the sun audio output plugin would be?

I doubt I could do it myself but I might be able to find someone who could update it if the task is not considered epic.

Any feedback appreciated,

Why do you need the sun audio plugin? OSS should work fine on any modern Solaris.

It will only work on "recent" release of OpenSolaris. Building it on Solaris 10 as required for inclusion in the Blastwave stack would require Sun audio. I'm maybe looking at packaging it with ESD but my experience with it are rather less than positive on Solaris.

Thanks for the feedback nonetheless,

I don't have a Sun machine, so obviously I can't build the plugin, but at first glance it looks like it will need only trivial changes to compile with 2.4. Have you tried doing so yet?

Yeah I tried but I think it appears to be greatly outdated. I'm also not sure but I think it's written for GTK+ version 1 instead of 2.

I assure you the OSS plugin works fine on Solaris 10. If it is not working, that is a bug.

Sorry I was not very clear. It will work if OSS is installed and I tried the OSS successfully.

I brought the sun audio plugin up to date, but have done only limited testing.

Hi,

Thanks a lot for this it is much appreciated.

To get the code to compiler however I had to replace the sun symbole to sun_ since it is already defined somewhere and sys/ioccom.h should be included from sun.h

However when trying to play something I get the following error :

** ERROR **: /dev/audio: cannot play (Invalid argument)
aborting...
Abort

I'll try a few things and will post back if I find anything.

Thanks,

Odd... it is working for me here on Solaris 10/sparc and on NetBSD. This is very strange. Maybe it has to do with the audioio.h I ship?
